حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ مَرَّةً عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ
اللَّهِ أَيُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ مُؤْمِنٌ يُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ قَالُوا ثُمَّ مَنْ قَالَ مُؤْمِنٌ اعْتَزَلَ فِي شِعْبٍ مِنْ الشِّعَابِ أَوْ الشُّعْبَةِ كَفَى النَّاسَ شَرَّهُ

English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Sulayman ibn Kathir narrated to us, al-Zuhri narrated to us, from 'Ata' — and 'Affan said once: 'Ata' ibn Yazid — from Abu Sa'id (رضي الله عنه) who said: It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, which of the people is most excellent?' He said: 'A believer who strives in the path of Allah with his self and his wealth.' They said: 'Then who?' He said: 'A man who withdraws to a mountain pass from among the mountain passes, worshipping his Lord and sparing the people from his evil.'
