English Translation

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salamah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) who said: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was distributing [wealth], 'Abdullah ibn Dhi al-Khuwaysirah al-Tamimi came and said: 'Be just, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'Woe to you! Who will be just if I am not just?' 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) said: 'O Messenger of Allah, let me strike his neck.' He said: 'Leave him, for he has companions whose prayer one of you would consider insignificant compared to their prayer, and their fasting compared to their fasting. They recite the Quran but it does not go beyond their collarbones. They pass through the religion as an arrow passes through game. One would look at its arrowhead and find nothing on it, then look at its shaft and find nothing on it, then look at its feathering and find nothing on it, and he would be uncertain about the notch. They emerge at the time of a division among the people. Their sign is a man whose arm is like the breast of a woman, or like a piece of flesh that quivers.' Abu Sa'id said: I bear witness that I heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I bear witness that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) fought them and I was with him. He ordered that man to be searched for, and he was brought. I looked at him and he matched the description the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had given.
