Hadith #223

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ أَبِي فَزَارَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَنَسًا عَنْ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَبْتَدِ
رُهُمَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعْدُ وَسَأَلْتُهُ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ فَقَالَ كُنَّا نَبْتَدِرُهُمَا وَلَمْ يَقُلْ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us from Ya'la ibn 'Ata', from Abu Fazarah who said: I asked Anas (رضي الله عنه) about the two rak'ahs before Maghrib. He said: 'We used to rush to pray them during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Shu'bah said: I said to him: 'Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray them?' He said: 'He used to see us praying them, and he neither commanded us nor forbade us.'
