Hadith #477
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَارَةُ الصَّيْدَلَانِيُّ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَائِلٌ فَأَمَرَ لَهُ بِتَمْرَةٍ فَلَمْ يَأْخُذْهَا أَوْ وَحَّشَ بِهَا
قَالَ وَأَتَاهُ آخَرُ فَأَمَرَ لَهُ بِتَمْرَةٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ تَمْرَةٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَقَالَ لِلْجَارِيَةِ اذْهَبِي إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَأَعْطِيهِ الْأَرْبَعِينَ دِرْهَمًا الَّتِي عِنْدَهَا

English Translation
Aswad narrated to us, 'Umarah al-Saydalani narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) who said: A beggar came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he ordered that he be given a date, but the man did not take it — or threw it away. Then another came, and he ordered that he be given a date, and the man said: 'Subhan Allah! A date from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!' He took it and said: 'I shall inform my family.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'This is why the first one did not take it — or threw it away — and this one took a date from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and rejoiced over it.'
