Hadith #569

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ وَعُرَيْنَةَ تَكَلَّمُوا بِالْإِسْلَامِ فَأَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ أَنَّهُمْ أَهْلُ ضَرْعٍ وَلَمْ يَكُونُوا أَهْلَ رِيفٍ وَشَكَوْا حُمَّى الْمَدِينَةِ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَوْدٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا مِنْ الْمَدِينَةِ فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَانْطَلَقُوا فَكَانُوا فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ فَكَف
َرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَبَعَثَ الطَّلَبَ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَتُرِكُوا بِنَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ يَقْضَمُونَ حِجَارَتَهَا حَتَّى مَاتُوا قَالَ قَتَادَةُ فَبَلَغَنَا أَنَّ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ نَزَلَتْ فِيهِمْ { إِنَّمَا جَزَاءُ الَّذِينَ يُحَارِبُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ }

English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that a group from 'Ukl and 'Uraynah professed Islam and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, informing him that they were people of livestock and not of agriculture. They complained of the fever and discomfort of Madinah. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that they be given camels with a herder. They went out and drank from their milk and urine until they became healthy and plump. Then they killed the herder and drove away the camels. the Prophet ﷺ sent riders, and they were caught before they reached their people. He had their hands and feet cut off and their eyes branded, and they were left in al-Harrah — they would ask for water but not be given any.
