English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, he said: Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, he said: Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) informed me that some of the Ansar said on the day of Hunayn, when Allah gave His Messenger the wealth of Hawazin as spoils, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began giving men from Quraysh a hundred camels each. They said: 'May Allah forgive the Messenger of Allah ﷺ! He gives to Quraysh and leaves us, while our swords are still dripping with their blood!' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was told of what they said. He gathered the Ansar and said: 'What is this talk that has reached me about you?' They said: 'It is as you were told.' He said: 'Would you not be pleased that the people go home with sheep and camels, while you return with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to your dwellings? By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if not for the Hijrah, I would have been a man of the Ansar. If the people took one path and the Ansar took another, I would take the path of the Ansar.' They wept until their beards were soaked, and they said: 'We are content with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as our share and portion.'
