حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ أَخْبَرَنَا ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَخَرَجَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ فَخَفَّفَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ بَيْت
َهُ فَأَطَالَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ فَخَفَّفَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ بَيْتَهُ فَأَطَالَ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّيْتَ فَجَعَلْتَ تُطِيلُ إِذَا دَخَلْتَ وَتُخَفِّفُ إِذَا خَرَجْتَ قَالَ مِنْ أَجْلِكُمْ مَا فَعَلْتُ

English Translation
Bahz ibn Asad narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Thumamah ibn 'Abdullah ibn Anas informed us, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) that one night the Companions came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He came out and prayed with them, keeping it brief. Then he went inside his house and prayed a long prayer. In the morning they asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, you prayed briefly with us and at length alone?' He said: 'I did that for your sake.'
