حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّازَّقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَذَلِكَ فِي السَّحَرِ يَا أَنَسُ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ فَأَطْعِمْنِي شَيْئًا قَالَ فَجِئْتُهُ بِتَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ بَعْدَ مَا أَذّ
َنَ بِلَالٌ فَقَالَ يَا أَنَسُ انْظُرْ إِنْسَانًا يَأْكُلُ مَعِي قَالَ فَدَعَوْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي شَرِبْتُ شَرْبَةَ سَوِيقٍ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ فَتَسَحَّرَ مَعَهُ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَأُقِيمَتْ الصَّلَاةُ

English Translation
Anas (رضي الله عنه) narrated: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me — and that was at the time of suhur: "O Anas, I intend to fast, so feed me something." I brought him some dates and a vessel of water. That was after Bilal had called the adhan. He said: "O Anas, look for a man to eat with me." So I called Zayd ibn Thabit, who came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I drank a drink of sawiq [barley drink] and I intend to fast." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "And I too intend to fast." So they both ate their pre-dawn meal together.
