English Translation

Anas (رضي الله عنه) narrated: Umm Sulaym had a small son called Abu 'Umayr, who had a pet bird [nughayr]. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would visit, he would joke with the boy and say: "O Abu 'Umayr, what happened to the nughayr [little bird]?" One day he saw the boy looking sad, and he asked: "What is the matter with Abu 'Umayr?" They said: "His bird has died." the Prophet ﷺ began consoling him and joking with him.
