حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ وَحَسَنٌ الْأَشْيَبُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ حَسَنٌ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ وَحُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم
َ مَرَّ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ الشَّهْبَاءِ بِحَائِطٍ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ فَسَمِعَ أَصْوَاتَ قَوْمٍ يُعَذَّبُونَ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ فَحَاصَتْ الْبَغْلَةُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا لَسَأَلْتُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُسْمِعَكُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ

English Translation
Mu'ammal and Hasan al-Ashyab narrated to us, they said: Hammad narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us — Hasan said: from Thabit and Humayd — from Anas (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by on his gray mule, and he passed by a garden in which there was a donkey and a she-camel or a camel. Anas said: So I said to the owner: 'How many people are buried here?' He said: 'So-and-so and so-and-so were buried during the jahiliyyah.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'They are being punished in their graves. Were it not that you would stop burying your dead, I would have asked Allah to let you hear of the punishment of the grave what I hear.'
