حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ أَخْبَرَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ ثَابِتِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ طَلَبْنَا عِلْمَ الْعُودِ الَّذِي فِي مَقَامِ الْإِمَامِ فَلَمْ نَقْدِرْ عَلَى أَحَدٍ يَذْكُرُ لَنَا فِيهِ شَيْئًا قَالَ مُصْعَبٌ فَأَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ صَاحِبُ الْمَقْصُورَةِ فَقَالَ جَلَسَ إِلَي
َّ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ هَلْ تَدْرِي لِمَ صُنِعَ هَذَا وَلَمْ أَسْأَلْهُ عَنْهُ فَقُلْتُ لَا وَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي لِمَ صُنِعَ فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَضَعُ عَلَيْهِ يَمِينَهُ ثُمَّ يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَيْنَا فَقَالَ اسْتَوُوا وَاعْدِلُوا صُفُوفَكُمْ

English Translation
Ahmad ibn al-Hajjaj narrated to us, Hatim ibn Isma'il informed us, Mus'ab ibn Thabit ibn 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us who said: 'We sought knowledge about the stick that was at the imam's standing place, but we could not find anyone who could inform us about it. Thabit ibn 'Ubayd Allah narrated to me, he said: Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) sent me on an errand to him and said: I see the imams now doing things with their sticks that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not do. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was only given the stick on the day of the Eid. He would lean on it while giving the khutbah.'
