حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُبَارَكِ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ قَالَ كَأَنَّهُ يَعْنِي

النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْإِزَارُ إِلَى نِصْفِ السَّاقِ فَشَقَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ أَوْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ وَلَا خَيْرَ فِي أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ

English Translation

'Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, 'Abdullah — meaning Ibn al-Mubarak — informed us, Humayd narrated to us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) who said — it seems he means the Prophet ﷺ said: 'The izar (lower garment) should reach to the middle of the shin.' When he saw the difficulty of that upon the Muslims, he said: 'To the ankles — there is no good in what is below that.'
