حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ لَمَّا مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحِجْرِ قَالَ لَا تَسْأَلُوا الْآيَاتِ وَقَدْ سَأَلَهَا قَوْمُ صَالِحٍ فَكَانَتْ تَرِدُ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَجِّ وَتَصْدُرُ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَجِّ فَعَتَوْا عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَكَ
انَتْ تَشْرَبُ مَاءَهُمْ يَوْمًا وَيَشْرَبُونَ لَبَنَهَا يَوْمًا فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ صَيْحَةٌ أَهْمَدَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَنْ تَحْتَ أَدِيمِ السَّمَاءِ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا رَجُلًا وَاحِدًا كَانَ فِي حَرَمِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قِيلَ مَنْ هُوَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هُوَ أَبُو رِغَالٍ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ مِنْ الْحَرَمِ أَصَابَهُ مَا أَصَابَ قَوْمَهُ

English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Uthman ibn Khuthaym, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir (رضي الله عنه) who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by al-Hijr (the ruins of Thamud), he said: 'Do not ask for signs. The people of Salih asked for them, and the she-camel would come through this pass and return through that pass. They transgressed the command of their Lord and hamstrung her. She used to drink their water one day, and they would drink her milk one day. They hamstrung her, and a terrifying cry seized them, and Allah destroyed all of them under the horizon except one man who was in the Sacred Precinct of Allah.' They said: 'Who was he, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Abu Righal. When he left the Haram, he was struck by what struck his people.'
