Hadith #451

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ قَالَ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَهْلَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحَجِّ خَالِصًا لَيْسَ مَعَهُ غَيْرُهُ خَالِصًا وَحْدَهُ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ صُبْحَ رَابِعَةٍ مَضَتْ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِلُّوا وَاجْعَلُوهَا عُمْرَةً فَبَلَغَهُ إِنَّا نَقُولُ لَمَّا لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ عَرَفَةَ إِلَّا خَمْسٌ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَحِلَّ فَيَرُوحَ إِلَى مِنًى نَاسٌ مِنَّا وَمَذَاكِيرُنَا تَقْطُرُ م
َنِيًّا فَخَطَبَنَا فَقَالَ قَدْ بَلَغَنِي الَّذِي قُلْتُمْ وَإِنِّي لَأَتْقَاكُمْ وَأَبَرُّكُمْ وَلَوْلَا الْهَدْيُ لَحَلَلْتُ وَلَوْ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا اسْتَدْبَرْتُ مَا أَهْدَيْتُ حِلُّوا وَاجْعَلُوهَا عُمْرَةً قَالَ وَقَدِمَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ مِنْ الْيَمَنِ قَالَ بِمَ أَهْلَلْتَ فَقَالَ بِمَا أَهَلَّ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَأَهْدِهِ وَامْكُثْ حَرَامًا كَمَا أَنْتَ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Isma'il informed us, Ibn Jurayj reported to us, from 'Ata', who said: Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما) said: "We, the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, entered ihram for Hajj alone, purely, with nothing else accompanying it. We arrived in Makkah on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hijjah. the Prophet ﷺ then commanded us to exit ihram." 'Ata' said: Jabir said: "He permitted them to approach their wives. That was difficult for us." He said: "That reached the Prophet ﷺ, and we do not know whether it reached him from Heaven or from the people. He said: 'Exit ihram and if I had known beforehand what I came to know later, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal. And were it not that I have a sacrificial animal with me, I would exit ihram.' So we exited ihram, listened, and obeyed."
