حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى وَحَسَنٌ وَاللَّفْظُ لَفْظُ حَسَنٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا هَلْ سَمِعْتَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ الرَّجُلُ فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا انْتَظَرَ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ انْتَظَرْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ل
َيْلَةً لِصَلَاةِ الْعَتَمَةِ فَاحْتَبَسَ عَلَيْنَا حَتَّى كَانَ قَرِيبًا مِنْ شَطْرِ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّيْنَا ثُمَّ قَالَ اجْلِسُوا فَخَطَبَنَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ صَلَّوْا وَرَقَدُوا وَأَنْتُمْ لَمْ تَزَالُوا فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا انْتَظَرْتُمْ الصَّلَاةَ

English Translation
Musa and Hasan narrated to us — and this is the wording of Hasan — they said: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr narrated to us who said: I asked Jabir: 'Did you hear the Prophet ﷺ say: A person is in a state of prayer so long as he is waiting for the prayer?' He said: 'Yes, so long as he does not do anything harmful or break his wudu.'
