English Translation
Hasan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr narrated to us, Jabir informed me that a woman from Banu Makhzum stole and sought refuge with Usamah ibn Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was brought before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Usamah spoke on her behalf. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed color, and he said: 'Do you intercede regarding one of the prescribed punishments of Allah (عز وجل)?' Usamah said: 'Seek forgiveness for me, O Messenger of Allah.' Then in the evening, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and praised Allah as He deserves, then said: 'Those before you were destroyed because when a noble person among them stole, they would leave him, but when a weak person stole, they would apply the punishment on him. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if Fatimah the daughter of Muhammad stole, I would cut off her hand.' Then he ordered that the woman's hand be cut off.
