Surayj ibn al-Nu'man narrated to us, he said: Hushaym narrated to us, Mujalid informed us, from al-Sha'bi, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما) that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) came to the Prophet ﷺ with a book he had obtained from some of the People of the Book. He read it to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ became angry and said: 'Are you confused about it, O son of al-Khattab? By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, I have brought it to you pure and clean. Do not ask them about anything, lest they tell you something true and you disbelieve it, or something false and you believe it. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if Musa (عليه السلام) were alive, he would have no choice but to follow me.'
