Hadith #126

حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ خَلَفٍ قِيلَ لَهُ هَلَكَ مَنْ لَمْ يُهَاجِرْ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَا أَصِلُ إِلَى أَهْلِي حَتَّى آتِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَكِبْتُ رَاحِلَتِي فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ زَعَمُوا أَنَّهُ هَلَكَ مَنْ لَمْ يُهَاجِرْ قَالَ كَلَّا أَبَا وَهْبٍ فَارْجِعْ
إِلَى أَبَاطِحِ مَكَّةَ قَالَ فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا رَاقِدٌ إِذْ جَاءَ السَّارِقُ فَأَخَذَ ثَوْبِي مِنْ تَحْتِ رَأْسِي فَأَدْرَكْتُهُ فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ هَذَا سَرَقَ ثَوْبِي فَأَمَرَ بِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُقْطَعَ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَيْسَ هَذَا أَرَدْتُ هُوَ عَلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ قَالَ فَهَلَّا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي بِهِ

English Translation
Rawh narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hafsah narrated to us, al-Zuhri narrated to us, from Safwan ibn 'Abdullah ibn Safwan, from his father, that Safwan ibn Umayyah ibn Khalaf was told: 'Whoever did not emigrate has perished.' He said: I said: 'I will not arrive at my home until I go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, they claim that whoever did not emigrate has perished.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Abu Wahb, return to your homeland in Makkah and dwell therein. There is no emigration after the conquest of Makkah, but there is jihad and intention. When you are called to go forth (for jihad), then go forth.'
