حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ قَرْمٍ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ ابْنِ أُخْتِ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ نَائِمًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ عَلَى خَمِيصَةٍ لِي فَسُرِقَتْ فَأَخَذْنَا السَّارِقَ فَرَفَعْنَ
اهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَرَ بِقَطْعِهِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَفِي خَمِيصَةٍ ثَمَنُ ثَلَاثِينَ دِرْهَمًا أَنَا أَهَبُهَا لَهُ أَوْ أَبِيعُهَا لَهُ قَالَ فَهَلَّا كَانَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي بِهِ

English Translation
Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Sulayman — meaning Ibn Qarm — narrated to us, from Simak, from Humayd, the nephew of Safwan ibn Umayyah, from Safwan ibn Umayyah who said: I was sleeping in the mosque on a garment of mine, and it was stolen. We caught the thief and brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He ordered his hand to be cut off. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I do not want his hand cut off for a garment. I give it to him as charity.' He ﷺ said: 'Why did you not do this before you brought him to me?'
