Hadith #139
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ يَعْنِي الدَّسْتُوَائِيَّ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ أَنَّ يُوسُفَ بْنَ مَاهَكَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَصْمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ
أَنَّ حَكِيمَ بْنَ حِزَامٍ أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَشْتَرِي بُيُوعًا فَمَا يَحِلُّ لِي مِنْهَا وَمَا يُحَرَّمُ عَلَيَّ قَالَ فَإِذَا اشْتَرَيْتَ بَيْعًا فَلَا تَبِعْهُ حَتَّى تَقْبِضَهُ

English Translation
Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Hisham — meaning al-Dastawa'i — narrated to us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to me, from a man, that Yusuf ibn Mahak informed him, that 'Abdullah ibn 'Ismah informed him, that Hakim ibn Hizam (رضي الله عنه) informed him, saying: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I do not give a pledge except for what I know is binding.' He said: I would not touch anything of that, neither good nor bad. He said: I came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me about things I do (of worship).' He ﷺ said: 'You have embraced Islam along with the good you have done before.'
