English Translation
'Attab ibn Ziyad narrated to us, 'Abdullah — meaning Ibn Mubarak — narrated to us, Layth ibn Sa'd informed us, 'Ubaydullah ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Irak ibn Malik, that Hakim ibn Hizam (رضي الله عنه) said: Muhammad ﷺ was the most beloved of people to me in the pre-Islamic period. When he became Prophet and migrated to Madinah, I went to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, give me.' He gave me. Then I said: 'Give me.' He gave me. Then he said: 'O Hakim, this wealth is green and sweet. Whoever takes it with generosity of soul, it is blessed for him. Whoever takes it with greediness, it is not blessed for him — like one who eats but is never satisfied.' Hakim said: 'O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I will not take anything from anyone after you until I depart from this world.'
