Hadith #201
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ وَاصِلٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ جَلَسْتُ إِلَى شَيْبَةَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ جَلَسَ إِلَيَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ مَجْلِسَكَ هَذَا فَقَالَ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ لَا
أَدَعَ فِيهَا صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا قَسَمْتُهَا بَيْنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ قُلْتُ مَا أَنْتَ بِفَاعِلٍ قَالَ لِمَ قُلْتُ لَمْ يَفْعَلْهُ صَاحِبَاكَ قَالَ هُمَا الْمَرْءَانِ يُقْتَدَى بِهِمَا
Isnad Chain
English Translation
'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Wasil, from Abu Wa'il who said: I sat with Shaybah ibn 'Uthman in this mosque and he said: ''Umar ibn al-Khattab sat in this very seat of yours and said: "I have a mind to not leave in it [the Ka'bah] any gold or silver except that I distribute it among the Muslims." I said: "Your two companions did not do that." He said: "They are the two who are to be followed."'
