English Translation
Sayyar ibn Hatim Abu Salamah al-'Anazi narrated to us, Ja'far, meaning Ibn Sulayman, narrated to us, Abu al-Tayyah narrated to us, he said: I said to 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Khanbash al-Tamimi — and he was very old: 'Did you witness the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He said: 'Yes.' I said: 'What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do on the night the shayatin attacked him?' He said: 'The shayatin descended upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the valleys and mountain passes. Among them was a shaytan with a torch of fire wanting to burn the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So Jibril عليه السلام descended and said: O Muhammad, say. He said: What shall I say? He said: Say: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil He has created, from the evil that descends from the sky and the evil that ascends to it, from the evil that is spread in the earth and the evil that emerges from it, from the trials of the night and day, and from the visitors of the night and day except a visitor who comes with good, O Most Merciful.'
