English Translation

'Affan narrated to us, Ja'far ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Abu al-Tayyah narrated to us, he said: A man asked 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Khanbash: 'How did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ act when the shayatin plotted against him?' He said: 'The shayatin came down upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the valleys and mountain passes. Among them was a shaytan carrying a torch of fire to burn the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became fearful. Jibril عليه السلام came and said: O Muhammad, say. He said: What shall I say? He said: Say: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah, which no righteous or wicked person can surpass, from the evil of what He has created, from the evil that descends from the sky and the evil that ascends to it, from the evil of the trials of night and day, from the evil of every visitor except a visitor who brings good, O Most Merciful. So the fire of the shayatin was extinguished and Allah defeated them.'
