Hadith #442

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ غَيْلَانَ حَدَّثَنَا رِشْدِينُ عَنْ زَبَّانَ عَنْ سَهْلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتْهُ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ انْطَلَقَ زَوْجِي غَازِيًا وَكُنْتُ أَقْتَدِي بِصَلَاتِهِ إِذَا صَلَّى وَبِفِعْلِهِ كُلِّهِ فَأَخْبِرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُبْلِغُنِي عَمَلَهُ
حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ فَقَالَ لَهَا أَتَسْتَطِيعِينَ أَنْ تَقُومِي وَلَا تَقْعُدِي وَتَصُومِي وَلَا تُفْطِرِي وَتَذْكُرِي اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى وَلَا تَفْتُرِي حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ قَالَتْ مَا أُطِيقُ هَذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ طُوِّقْتِيهِ مَا بَلَغْتِ الْعُشْرَ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ

English Translation
Yaḥyā ibn Ghaylān narrated to us: Rishdīn narrated to us, from Zabbān, from Sahl, from his father [Muʿādh ibn Anas al-Juhanī] (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet ﷺ that a woman came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, my husband has gone out on a military expedition, and I used to follow his prayer when he prayed and all his actions. So instruct me with an action that will equal his until he returns.' He ﷺ said: 'Can you stand continuously in prayer, fast without breaking, and remember Allāh until he returns?' She said: 'I am not able to do that, O Messenger of Allāh.' He ﷺ said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, even if you could do all that, it would not equal one-tenth of his action.'
