حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَفْصِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَكَانَ بَدْرِيًّا قَالَ لَقَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَبْعَثُنَا فِي السَّرِيَّةِ يَ
ا بُنَيَّ مَا لَنَا زَادٌ إِلَّا السَّلْفُ مِنْ التَّمْرِ فَيَقْسِمُهُ قَبْضَةً قَبْضَةً حَتَّى يَصِيرَ إِلَى تَمْرَةٍ تَمْرَةٍ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا أَبَتِ وَمَا عَسَى أَنْ تُغْنِيَ التَّمْرَةُ عَنْكُمْ قَالَ لَا تَقُلْ ذَلِكَ يَا بُنَيَّ فَبَعْدَ أَنْ فَقَدْنَاهَا فَاخْتَلَلْنَا إِلَيْهَا

English Translation
Yazīd narrated to us: al-Masʿūdī informed us, from Abū Bakr ibn Ḥafṣ ibn ʿUmar ibn Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿĀmir ibn Rabīʿah, from his father — who participated in Badr — (رضي الله عنه) who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ certainly used to send us on a military expedition and we had nothing to eat except leaves and fruits, until our lips would crack. Then one of us would find a date and split it with his companion.
