حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ قَالَ مَا أَرَى الدِّيَةَ إِلَّا لِلْعَ
صَبَةِ لِأَنَّهُمْ يَعْقِلُونَ عَنْهُ فَهَلْ سَمِعَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الْكِلَابِيُّ وَكَانَ اسْتَعْمَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْأَعْرَابِ كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أُوَرِّثَ امْرَأَةَ أَشْيَمَ الضَّبَابِيِّ مِنْ دِيَةِ زَوْجِهَا فَأَخَذَ بِذَلِكَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us: Maʿmar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab, that ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (رضي الله عنه) said: 'I do not see the blood money (diyah) as belonging to anyone but the male relatives (ʿaṣabah), because they pay it on his behalf. Has anyone heard anything from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ regarding this?' al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Sufyān al-Kilābī (رضي الله عنه) said: 'The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ wrote to me that I should give the wife of Ashyam al-Ḍibābī a share from the blood money of her husband.' So ʿUmar retracted his opinion.
