حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ يَعُودُهُ قَالَ فَوَجَدْنَا عِنْدَهُ سَهْلَ بْنَ حُنَيْفٍ قَالَ فَدَعَا أَبُو طَلْحَةَ إِنْسَانًا فَنَزَعَ نَمَطًا تَحْتَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَهْلُ بْ
نُ حُنَيْفٍ لِمَ تَنْتَزِعُهُ قَالَ لِأَنَّ فِيهِ تَصَاوِيرَ وَقَدْ قَالَ فِيهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا قَدْ عَلِمْتَ قَالَ سَهْلٌ أَوَلَمْ يَقُلْ إِلَّا مَا كَانَ رَقْمًا فِي ثَوْبٍ قَالَ بَلَى وَلَكِنَّهُ أَطْيَبُ لِنَفْسِي

English Translation
Isḥāq ibn ʿĪsā narrated to us, he said: Mālik narrated to us, from Abū al-Naḍr, from ʿUbaydullāh ibn ʿAbdillāh, that he visited Abū Ṭalḥah al-Anṣārī to check on him during his illness. He said: We found Sahl ibn Ḥunayf with him. Abū Ṭalḥah called for someone to remove a mat from under Sahl. Sahl said to him: 'Why do you remove it?' He said: 'Because it has images on it.' Sahl said: 'But the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said about images that they are on garments — did he not say so?' Abū Ṭalḥah said: 'Indeed, but it puts my heart more at ease.'
