English Translation

Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, he said: Abū Uways narrated to us, al-Zuhrī narrated to us, from Abū Umāmah ibn Sahl ibn Ḥunayf, that his father narrated to him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ set out and they marched with him toward Makkah, until they reached the pass of al-Ḥajūn near ʿUsfān. Sahl ibn Ḥunayf took a bath. He was a man with fair skin, beautiful body, and good skin. ʿĀmir ibn Rabīʿah looked at him while he was bathing and said: 'I have never seen the like of what I see today, not even the skin of a secluded maiden!' Sahl fell to the ground (struck by the evil eye). The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was informed, and he came and said: 'Whom do you suspect?' They said: 'ʿĀmir ibn Rabīʿah.' He said: 'Why would one of you kill his brother? If one of you sees something he admires about his brother, let him pray for blessings upon him.' Then he called for water and ordered ʿĀmir to wash his face, hands, elbows, knees, and the ends of his feet, and what was under his waist-wrap. He poured it over Sahl, and Sahl got up and went with the people, having nothing wrong with him.
