ʿAbdullāh narrated to us: Masrūq ibn al-Marzubān al-Kūfī narrated to us: Ibn Abī Zāʾidah narrated to us: Ibn Isḥāq said: Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUbaydullāh ibn al-ʿAbbās narrated to me, he said: I heard Rabīʿah ibn ʿAbbād al-Dīlī say: I was with my father as a young man, looking at the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ following the tribes, and behind him was a cross-eyed, handsome man with thick hair. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ would stop before a tribe and say: 'O Banū so-and-so, I am the Messenger of Allāh to you. I command you to worship Allāh and associate nothing with Him, and to believe in me so that I may convey from Allāh what He has sent me with.' When the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ finished his speech, the one behind him would say: 'O Banū so-and-so, this one wants you to strip away al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā and your allies from the tribe of Banū Mālik ibn Uqaysh, to what he has brought of innovation and misguidance. Do not listen to him or follow him!' I said to my father: 'Who is this?' He said: 'His uncle Abū Lahab.'
