Hadith #214

English Translation

Saʿīd ibn Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qurashī narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from Ibn Isḥāq: Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbdullāh narrated to me, from Rabīʿah ibn ʿAbbād al-Duʾalī, and from one who narrated to him from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Rabīʿah ibn ʿAbbād, who said: By Allāh, I remember him going around the camps at Minā while I was with my father as a young man, and behind him was a handsome, cross-eyed man with two braids. When the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ stopped before a people, he said: 'I am the Messenger of Allāh. He commands you to worship Him and associate nothing with Him.' The one behind him would say: 'He is calling you to abandon the religion of your fathers and to strip away al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā and your allies from Banū Mālik ibn Uqaysh, to what he has brought of innovation and misguidance!' I said to my father: 'Who is this?' He said: 'This is his uncle, Abū Lahab — ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib.'
