حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ
مَسْلَمَةَ يُطَارِدُ امْرَأَةً بِبَصَرِهِ فَقُلْتُ تَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَأَنْتَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِذَا أَلْقَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي قَلْبِ امْرِئٍ خِطْبَةً لِامْرَأَةٍ فَلَا بَأْسَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهَا

English Translation
Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us: al-Ḥajjāj ibn Arṭāh informed us, from Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān ibn Abī Ḥathmah, from Sahl ibn Abī Ḥathmah, who said: I saw Muḥammad ibn Maslamah looking intently at a woman. I said: 'You look at her while you are one of the Companions of Muḥammad ﷺ?' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: "When Allāh عز وجل places in the heart of a man the intention to propose to a woman, there is no harm in looking at her."'
