حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ كُنَّا جُلُوسًا بِالْأَفْنِيَةِ فَمَرَّ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ مَا لَكُمْ و
َلِمَجَالِسِ الصُّعُدَاتِ اجْتَنِبُوا مَجَالِسَ الصُّعُدَاتِ قَالَ قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا جَلَسْنَا لِغَيْرِ مَا بَأْسٍ نَتَذَاكَرُ وَنَتَحَدَّثُ قَالَ فَأَعْطُوا الْمَجَالِسَ حَقَّهَا قُلْنَا وَمَا حَقُّهَا قَالَ غَضُّ الْبَصَرِ وَرَدُّ السَّلَامِ وَحُسْنُ الْكَلَامِ

English Translation
ʿAffān narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād narrated to us, ʿUthmān ibn Ḥakīm narrated to us, he said: Isḥāq ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah narrated to me, he said: My father narrated to me, he said: Abū Ṭalḥah said: We were sitting in the courtyards when the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ passed by us and said: "What are you doing sitting in the pathways? Avoid sitting in the pathways." We said: O Messenger of Allāh, we are only sitting for harmless conversation and discussion. He said: "Then give the gatherings their rights." We said: What are their rights? He said: "Lowering the gaze, returning the greeting of salām, and speaking well."
