English Translation

Bahz ibn Asad narrated to us, he said: ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us, he said: Iyās ibn Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ narrated to us, from his father, who said: We went on the expedition against Hawāzin and Ghaṭafān with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. While we were thus, a man came on a red camel. He took something from the belly-band of the camel and hobbled it with it. Then he came walking until he sat with us to eat. He looked at the people and saw that their mounts were few and most of them were on foot. When he observed this, he went running to his camel, mounted it, and galloped away — he was a scout for the disbelievers. A man from among us, from Aslam, followed him on a gray she-camel. Iyās said: My father said: I followed him running on my two feet. The she-camel's head was at the camel's flank. I caught up and was at the she-camel's flank, then moved ahead until I was at the camel's flank, then moved ahead until I seized the camel's halter. I said to it: Ikh [kneel]! When the camel put its knee to the ground, I drew my sword and struck his head — it flew off. Then I came with his riding camel, leading it. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ met me with the people and said: "Who killed this man?" They said: Ibn al-Akwaʿ. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "All his spoils belong to him."
