Hadith #122
Arabic Text
قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ نُوحٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ أَدْرَكْتُ عَجُوزًا لَنَا كَانَتْ فِيمَنْ بَايَعْنَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ أَتَيْنَاهُ يَوْمًا فَأَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ لَا تَنُحْنَ قَالَتْ الْعَجُوزُ يَا رَسُولَ اللّ
َهِ إِنَّ نَاسًا كَانُوا قَدْ أَسْعَدُونِي عَلَى مُصِيبَةٍ أَصَابَتْنِي وَإِنَّهُمْ أَصَابَتْهُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُسْعِدَهُمْ ثُمَّ إِنَّهَا أَتَتْهُ فَبَايَعَتْهُ وَقَالَتْ هُوَ الْمَعْرُوفُ الَّذِي قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { وَلَا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ }

English Translation
Abū Saʿīd narrated to us, ʿUmar ibn Farrūkh narrated to us, he said: Muṣʿab ibn Nūḥ al-Anṣārī narrated to us, who said: I met an old woman of ours who was among those who had pledged to the Prophet ﷺ. She said: We came to him one day, and he took from us the pledge not to wail [over the dead]. The old woman said: O Messenger of Allāh, some people had wailed with me over a calamity that struck me, and now a calamity has struck them, and I want to wail with them [in return]. Then she came to him and pledged to him, and she said: This is the maʿrūf [right conduct] about which Allāh عز وجل said: {and they do not disobey you in what is right} [60:12].
