قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ عَن

ْ يَحْيَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي حَيَّةُ التَّمِيمِيُّ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا شَيْءَ فِي الْهَامِ وَالْعَيْنُ حَقٌّ وَأَصْدَقُ الطِّيَرِ الْفَأْلُ

English Translation

Abū ʿĀmir narrated to us, he said: ʿAlī narrated to us, from Yaḥyā — meaning Ibn Abī Kathīr — he said: Ḥayyah al-Tamīmī narrated to me that his father informed him that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say: There is nothing in the hāmah (owl superstition), and the evil eye is real, and the most truthful of omens is the faʾl (good omen).
