Hadith #195

English Translation

Yūnus ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, he said: Abān narrated to us — and ʿAbd al-Ṣamad said: Hishām narrated to us, from Yaḥyā, from Abū Jaʿfar, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from some of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, he said: While a man was praying with his lower garment trailing, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said to him: Go and perform wuḍūʾ. He went and performed wuḍūʾ and came back. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said to him again: Go and perform wuḍūʾ. He went and performed wuḍūʾ and came back. Someone said: O Messenger of Allāh, why did you tell him to perform wuḍūʾ and then remain silent? He said: He was praying while trailing his lower garment, and Allāh عز وجل does not accept the prayer of a servant who trails his lower garment.
