قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَزْهَرَ يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزَاةَ يَوْمِ الْفَتْحِ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ شَابٌّ يَتَخَلَّلُ النَّاسَ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ مَنْزِلِ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ فَأُتِيَ بِشَارِبٍ فَأَمَرَهُمْ فَضَرَبُوهُ بِمَا فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ضَرَبَهُ بِعَصًا وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ضَرَبَهُ بِسَوْطٍ وَحَثَى عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ التُّرَابَ
English Translation
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Azhar narrated — and Rawḥ said: on the Day of the Conquest — that a man who had drunk wine was brought to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: 'Beat him!' Rawḥ said: So they beat him with sandals and palm fronds. Then the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Censure him!' So they censured him, and he said: 'Let him go.' Then Abū Bakr was consulted [later] and he ordered forty lashes.
