حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حُمْرَانَ بْنَ أَبَانَ يُ

حَدِّثُ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ أَنَّهُ رَأَى أُنَاسًا يُصَلُّونَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ إِنَّكُمْ لَتُصَلُّونَ صَلَاةً قَدْ صَحِبْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَا رَأَيْنَاهُ يُصَلِّيهَا وَلَقَدْ نَهَى عَنْهَا يَعْنِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ

English Translation

Muʿāwiyah narrated — via Ḥumrān ibn Abān — that he saw people praying after ʿAṣr and said: 'You are praying a prayer that we accompanied the Prophet ﷺ and never saw him pray it, and he prohibited it' — meaning the two rakʿahs after ʿAṣr.
