حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ حَدَّثَنِي الْمَشْيَخَةُ أَنَّهُمْ حَضَرُوا غُضَيْفَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ الثُّمَالِيَّ حِينَ اشْتَدَّ سَوْقُهُ فَقَالَ هَلْ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ يَقْرَأُ يس قَالَ فَقَرَأَهَا صَالِحُ بْنُ
شُرَيْحٍ السَّكُونِيُّ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ أَرْبَعِينَ مِنْهَا قُبِضَ قَالَ فَكَانَ الْمَشْيَخَةُ يَقُولُونَ إِذَا قُرِئَتْ عِنْدَ الْمَيِّتِ خُفِّفَ عَنْهُ بِهَا قَالَ صَفْوَانُ وَقَرَأَهَا عِيسَى بْنُ الْمُعْتَمِرِ عِنْدَ ابْنِ مَعْبَدٍ

English Translation
Abū al-Mughīrah narrated to us, Ṣafwān narrated to us, he said: The elders narrated to me that they were present with Ghuḍayf ibn al-Ḥārith al-Thumālī when his death agony intensified. He said: "Is there anyone among you who can recite Sūrah Yā-Sīn?" So Ṣāliḥ ibn Shurayḥ al-Sakūnī recited it, and when he reached the fortieth verse, he (Ghuḍayf) passed away. The elders used to say: "When Yā-Sīn is recited near the dying person, it is made easy for him by it." Ṣafwān said: ʿĪsā ibn al-Muʿtamir recited it near Ibn Maʿbad.
