English Translation
Ziyād ibn al-Rabīʿ narrated to us, he said: ʿAbbād ibn Kathīr al-Shāmī narrated to us — from the people of Palestine — from a woman among them called Fasīlah, who said: I heard my father say: I asked the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allāh, is it from tribalism (ʿaṣabiyyah) for a man to love his people?" He said: "No. Rather, tribalism is for a man to support his people in wrongdoing." Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: I heard scholars mention that her father — meaning Fasīlah's — was Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ. And I saw my father place this ḥadīth at the end of the ḥadīths of Wāthilah, so I assumed he appended it to the ḥadīths of Wāthilah.
