حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْقَيْسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي بَشْرُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَكَانَ مِنْ رَهْطِهِ قَالَ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلّ
َى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَرِيَّةً فَسَلَّحْتُ رَجُلًا سَيْفًا قَالَ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ قَالَ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ مَا لَامَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَعَجَزْتُمْ إِذْ بَعَثْتُ رَجُلًا فَلَمْ يَمْضِ لِأَمْرِي أَنْ تَجْعَلُوا مَكَانَهُ مَنْ يَمْضِي لِأَمْرِي

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us, Sulaymān ibn al-Mughīrah al-Qaysī narrated to us, he said: Ḥumayd ibn Hilāl narrated to us, he said: Bishr ibn ʿĀṣim al-Laythī narrated to me, from ʿUqbah ibn Mālik — who was from his clan — who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ sent out a military expedition, and I equipped a man with a sword. When he returned, he said: "I have never seen such a rebuke as the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ gave us." He said: "Were you unable, when I sent a man who did not carry out my command, to replace him with someone who would carry out my command?"
