Bahz narrated to us, he said: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, Yaʿlā ibn ʿAṭāʾ narrated to us, from Yazīd ibn Ṭalq, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Baylamānī, from ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah who said: I came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allāh, who accepted Islam with you?" He said: "A free man and a slave" — meaning Abū Bakr and Bilāl. I said: "O Messenger of Allāh, teach me of what you know. Is there an hour more virtuous than another?" He said: "The last part of the night is the most virtuous, for it is a witnessed and accepted time until you pray Fajr. Then refrain until the sun rises and while it is still like a shield, until it spreads. For it rises between the two horns of Shayṭān, and the disbelievers prostrate to it. Then pray, for it is a witnessed and accepted time, until the pole's shadow stands upright. Then refrain, for at that time Jahannam is stoked. When the sun passes its zenith, then pray, for it is a witnessed and accepted time until you pray ʿAṣr. Then refrain until the sun sets, for it sets between the two horns of Shayṭān, and the disbelievers prostrate to it." ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah used to say: "I am the fourth of Islam." And ʿAbd al-Raḥmān used to pray two rakʿahs after ʿAṣr.
