English Translation

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Maʿmar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh ibn ʿAbdillāh, from Abū Hurayrah and Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī: that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "My son was a hired worker for this man, and he committed adultery with his wife. I was told that my son deserved stoning, so I ransomed him with a slave-girl and one hundred sheep. Then scholars told me that my son deserves one hundred lashes and banishment for a year, and that this man's wife deserves stoning." — I think he said: "So judge between us by the Book of Allāh." the Prophet ﷺ said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I will judge between you by the Book of Allāh. The sheep and the slave-girl are returned to you. As for your son, he receives one hundred lashes and banishment for a year." Then he said to a man from the tribe of Aslam called Unays: "Go, O Unays, and ask this man's wife. If she confesses, stone her."
