حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَلَاذٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ نُمَيْرِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مَسْرُوحٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نِعْمَ الْحَيُّ الْأُسْدُ وَالْأَشْعَرِيُّونَ لَا يَفِرُّونَ فِي الْقِتَالِ وَلَا يَغُلُّونَ هُمْ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُمْ قَالَ عَامِرٌ فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ مُعَاوِ
يَةَ فَقَالَ لَيْسَ هَكَذَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَكِنَّهُ قَالَ هُمْ مِنِّي وَإِلَيَّ فَقَالَ لَيْسَ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَكِنَّهُ قَالَ هُمْ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُمْ قَالَ فَأَنْتَ إِذًا أَعْلَمُ بِحَدِيثِ أَبِيكَ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ هَذَا مِنْ أَجْوَدِ الْحَدِيثِ مَا رَوَاهُ إِلَّا جَرِيرٌ

English Translation
Wahb ibn Jarīr narrated to us saying: My father narrated to us saying: I heard ʿAbdullāh ibn Malādh narrating, from Numayr ibn Aws, from Mālik ibn Masrūḥ, from ʿĀmir ibn Abī ʿĀmir al-Ashʿarī, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "What an excellent tribe the Asd and the Ashʿarīs are! They do not flee in battle and do not steal from the spoils. They are from me and I am from them." ʿĀmir said: I narrated this to Muʿāwiyah, who said: "That is not what the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said. Rather he said: 'They are from me and to me.'" He [ʿĀmir] said: "That is not how my father narrated it to me from the Prophet ﷺ. Rather he said: 'They are from me and I am from them.'" He [Muʿāwiyah] said: "Then you know your father's ḥadīth better." ʿAbdullāh said: This is among the finest of ḥadīths; no one narrated it except Jarīr.
