English Translation
ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith narrated to us saying: Mālik ibn Mighwal narrated to us, ʿAlī ibn Mudrik narrated to us, from Abū ʿĀmir al-Ashʿarī رضي الله عنه, who said: There was a man from them who was killed at Awṭās. the Prophet ﷺ said to him: "O Abū ʿĀmir, did you not change?" Then he recited this verse: {O you who believe, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you are guided.} The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ became angry and said: "Where have you gone with this? It only means: O you who believe, those who have gone astray from among the disbelievers will not harm you when you are guided."
