English Translation

Ḥammād ibn Khālid narrated to us: Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, from Rāshid ibn Saʿd, from al-Miqdām ibn Maʿdī Karib al-Kindī, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said: 'Whoever leaves wealth, it is for his heirs. Whoever leaves a debt or dependents, then it falls to me, and I am the guardian of one who has no guardian — I release his captive and inherit his wealth. And the maternal uncle is the guardian of one who has no guardian — he releases his captive and inherits his wealth.' ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ, he said: I heard Rāshid ibn Saʿd narrating from al-Miqdām ibn Maʿdī Karib, he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said — and he mentioned the like of it, except that he said: 'I release his captive forcibly.'
