حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ حَلِيفُ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ يَأْتِي بِجِزْيَتِهَا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ صَالَحَ أَهْلَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ فَقَدِمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بِمَالٍ مِنْ الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَسَمِعَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ بِقُدُومِهِ فَوَافَتْ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ و
َسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ انْصَرَفَ فَتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ رَآهُمْ فَقَالَ أَظُنُّكُمْ قَدْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ قَدْ جَاءَ وَجَاءَ بِشَيْءٍ قَالُوا أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا الْفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ تُبْسَطَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا وَتُلْهِيكُمْ كَمَا أَلْهَتْهُمْ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدٌ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ حَلِيفُ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Yaʿqūb narrated to us: My father narrated to us, from Ṣāliḥ, [who] said: Ibn Shihāb informed me: ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me that al-Miswar ibn Makhramah informed him that ʿAmr ibn ʿAwf — who was an ally of Banū ʿĀmir ibn Luʾayy and had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abū ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrāḥ to Bahrain to collect its jizyah. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had made peace with the people of Bahrain and appointed al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥaḍramī over them. Abū ʿUbaydah arrived with wealth from Bahrain, and the Anṣār heard of his arrival and attended the Fajr prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the Fajr prayer and turned to leave, they stood in his way. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them and said: 'I think you have heard that Abū ʿUbaydah has come and brought something.' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Then rejoice and hope for what will please you. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but I fear that the worldly life will be spread open before you as it was spread before those who came before you, and you will compete for it as they competed, and it will distract you as it distracted them.' Saʿd narrated to us: My father narrated to me, from Ṣāliḥ, from Ibn Shihāb, he said: ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me that al-Miswar ibn Makhramah informed him that ʿAmr ibn ʿAwf — ally of Banū ʿĀmir ibn Luʾayy and veteran of Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abū ʿUbaydah — and he mentioned the like of it.
