English Translation
Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, from his father, from a man of Muzaynah, that his mother said to him: 'Why don't you go and ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as people ask him?' So I went to ask him, and I found him standing delivering a sermon, saying: 'Whoever seeks chastity, Allah will grant him chastity. Whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will grant him sufficiency. Whoever asks people while possessing the equivalent of five awāq (200 dirhams), he has asked importunately.' I said to myself: a she-camel of his is better than five awāq, and his servant's she-camel is also better than five awāq. So I went back without asking him.
