Saʿīd ibn ʿĀmir narrated to us: Shuʿbah narrated to us: Saʿīd ibn Masrūq narrated to us, from ʿAbāyah ibn Rifāʿah ibn Rāfiʿ ibn Khadīj, from his grandfather Rāfiʿ ibn Khadīj, he said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we will meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives.' He said: 'Whatever causes the blood to flow and the name of Allah is mentioned over it, then eat — not the tooth or the nail. I shall tell you about that: as for the tooth, it is bone; and as for the nail, it is the knife of the Abyssinians.' He said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ obtained some spoils and a camel bolted from them. They chased it but could not catch it, so a man shot it with an arrow and stopped it. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'These camels — or he said: livestock — have wild tendencies like wild beasts. Whatever overpowers you of them, do the same to it.'
